Welcome to First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian

Rooted in God’s grace, reaching out in love, caring for all.

Who are we?

  • In 1808, brothers Samuel F. and John P. Jones named their Catskill Mountain village after President Jefferson’s home, setting aside part of their “mountain of heaven” in the center of town for the county courthouse and a house of public worship. They deeded the land to Sullivan County which turned the plot into the site of First Presbyterian Church, the very first church in the community. The congregation was organized with twelve members in 1810 by the Presbytery of Hudson. The first church on the site, built in 1828, was destroyed by fire in 1844, and the second burned in 1943. The third and present church structure was dedicated on June 29, 1952. (from the Presbyterian Historical Society)

We are affiliated with PC (USA) and encourage you to learn more about our denomination.

  • Whether you have been a Presbyterian your entire life or you are just starting out on your faith journey - we welcome you to join us.

We worship through scripture, prayer, and song. We follow the liturgical calendar as we celebrate the holiness of God, the life of Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

We observe communion on the first Sunday of each month - where ALL are welcome to partake.

  • Some of the ways we live out our faith in the community is through our Thrift Shop open each Saturday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, our Kris Kringle Shop open during Christmas season, and our donations to United Way of food baskets at Thanksgiving and toys at Christmas.
